The settlement of the Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents' housing situation underscores the government's pledge to tackle citizens' concerns without passing them to future administrations, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. Eligible households will receive two new housing units at no cost through the permanent housing development initiative, delivering substantial assistance to the urban poor population.
Ramanan, who represents Sungai Buloh in Parliament, emphasised that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's decision marks a decisive commitment to delivering timely solutions for the public. He commended the Prime Minister's announcement of RM1 million in additional funding directed to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to maintain the locality over a three-year span.
Although the scale of this undertaking remains relatively modest, Ramanan noted that its significance for residents who have endured extended delays proves transformative. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the permanent housing development today.
The housing predicament affecting Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents spanned over four decades before residents initiated legal proceedings from 2018 onwards. These efforts culminated in a dignified resolution that safeguards Taman Rimba Kiara's conservation, avoiding the complications posed by earlier redevelopment proposals.
