Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for Malaysia's economic expansion to translate into tangible benefits for citizens across the board, with emphasis on those living in rural areas and lower-income communities. Speaking at a Hi-Tea event with the fishing community, farmers and local residents at Pantai Leka Food Court in Muar on June 15, Anwar stressed that development cannot be confined to large infrastructure projects or cutting-edge technological initiatives alone.
The Premier highlighted that the welfare of farming, fishing, and smallholder communities continues to form a cornerstone of the MADANI Government's policy agenda, even as the nation pursues ambitious programmes in artificial intelligence and digital modernisation. He emphasised that responsible governance demands leaders venture into communities to listen directly to residents' concerns and work towards resolving their challenges with genuine commitment.
Anwar underscored the importance of ensuring that social safety nets and targeted assistance programmes reach their intended beneficiaries efficiently through relevant government agencies. He cautioned Cabinet ministers and political leaders to remain engaged with ordinary citizens, particularly those in underserved regions, to prevent any demographic group from being left behind during the country's transformation.
The Prime Minister voiced concern that development initiatives must demonstrate clear benefits to grassroots populations rather than remaining abstract at the national level. He questioned who would champion the interests of marginalised communities if elected representatives failed to actively represent their aspirations and challenges in government circles.
