The Kerjaya Selangor initiative, conducted jointly with the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) through the MyFuture Jobs portal, functions as a digital intermediary connecting job-seekers with employers. Rather than functioning as a simple vacancy listing service, the platform assesses applicant qualifications and technical capabilities against specific industry requirements, improving matching efficiency and reducing recruitment friction. Complementing this online mechanism, JobCare Selangor job fairs provide TVET graduates with direct employer engagement and immediate interview opportunities, accelerating the transition from training completion to employment.
Statistical evidence suggests these initiatives are yielding measurable results. Between January and July of the current year, PERKESO data indicates that Selangor produced 10,111 TVET graduates across various technical disciplines. During the identical period, the state registered 78,030 job vacancies requiring at minimum diploma-level qualifications. Of particular significance, 3,965 vacancies existed specifically within high-value-added sectors including automotive engineering, semiconductor manufacturing, and industrial production. This heterogeneity means that a software developer shortage in Cyberjaya differs fundamentally from welding-technician gaps in Rawang.
To address this geographic specificity, the state government acknowledges needing comprehensive data from universities and technical institutions regarding graduate production by field of study and district of origin. Mapping exercises that correlate where TVET graduates emerge geographically with where skills shortages exist would enable more precision in training investment and guidance.
