Police in Pekan have arrested three people in connection with an organised operation involving the sale and falsification of medical leave certificates. The suspects, all in their 30s, were detained on June 15 following information received by the District Health Office on June 10. According to Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, the trio — comprising a mechanic, workshop owner and cleaner — allegedly functioned as intermediaries managing customer acquisition and transaction coordination.
Investigators established that the forged certificates were being distributed at prices ranging from RM50 to RM200 each. The scheme appears to have involved the documents being obtained from a government clinic and subsequently marketed through the network of intermediaries. A medical officer whose signature was reproduced on the certificates confirmed that he had been reassigned to another facility in 2023 and that the official stamp in use was outdated and no longer valid.
The operation was structured as a coordinated enterprise with distinct roles assigned to participants. The primary suspect in the case remains at large and is believed to be a female government health worker stationed at a clinic who allegedly furnished the fraudulent certificates to the intermediaries. Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend this individual and determine the full scope of the illicit activities.
The three detained suspects are scheduled to appear before the Pekan Magistrate's Court on June 16 for consideration of remand extension. The investigation is being conducted under Sections 468 and 420 of the Penal Code, which address forgery and cheating offences respectively.
