Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has urged MADANI Communities nationwide to shoulder responsibility for communicating accurate, verified and dependable information concerning government policies, initiatives and achievements to the public. Speaking at the Jiwa MADANI programme in Kota Bharu on June 16, Fahmi stressed that this responsibility should not rest with government agencies alone, including the Information Department (JAPEN) and the Community Communications Department (J-KOM).
The minister cited several policy successes requiring wider public communication. He referenced efforts to maintain food security, particularly the government's ability to ensure adequate rice supplies during festive seasons through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. He also highlighted the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme System (eCOSS), implemented by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, which has made subsidised packet cooking oil readily accessible to consumers after previous scarcity.
Fahmi noted that these accomplishments, achieved under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration, represent important achievements that MADANI Communities must convey to their constituents. During the event, the minister presented appointment letters to Kelantan MADANI Community leaders for the 2026-2027 term.
To support community leaders in their information dissemination role, the Communications Ministry intends to conduct regular briefings on current developments and government programmes. Additionally, JAPEN will monitor the performance of MADANI Community chapters to guarantee they effectively distribute information at grassroots level.
Fahmi warned that underperforming community chapters would face consequences, stating that JAPEN would respond promptly to any inactive MADANI Communities. "If that happens, we will make the necessary changes, including replacing those who are not performing," he said.
